Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 96 Manga Review
フェアリーテイル 100年クエスト
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Diabolos Dark Dragon-Slayer Knight Kirin faces Fairy Tail member Laxus. Kirin produces a coffin and notes that it might be too small to stuff Laxus into. Laxus retorts that Kirin will go into the coffin. Kirin gives Laxus a beating using his altered, air pressure magic. Further, said magic provides a “perfect” defensive shield.
Laxus shows how lightning can pass through air, thus he lands a massive blow to Kirin. This amuses Kirin, who decides to take the fight seriously. His increase in magic causes concern within Laxus.
Elsewhere, plushies Happy, Lucy, and Natsu flee the plushie dog. Lucy summons plushie Loke. After learning the details, he requests Aries be summoned to create wool barrier. Then he and Natsu carefully manage to set the plushie dog on fire. Inside, they find a small ball core.
Still elsewhere, an exhausted Wendy and Lily try to rest when Haku finds them.
Thoughts/Review:
If you are going to bring Laxus in, you have to show him fighting, right? Well, that’s what we get in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 96. I previously lamented that we didn’t get to see Laxus beat up Skullion and Madmole. And I suspect that’s because Mashima-sensei didn’t want to waste time showing that pair in a fight again. However, since Kirin is a new entity, then why not have him fight Laxus.
Considering how often fights end so quickly, I’m kinda surprised the Laxus fight with Kirin isn’t resolved. Instead, we get the cliched, “Well, I guess I’m going to have to get serious” moment when Laxus shows Kirin the error of his overconfidence. Nevertheless, the whole thing with the coffin make me chuckle. I’m not a wrestling fan, but somehow, Kirin and Laxus smack talking about the coffin made me think of wrestling.
The chapter also returns us to the plushie forms for Natsu, Lucy, and Happy. I’ll admit, the absurdity of them in this form is amusing. Should there be an anime adaptation in the future, I’m guessing this will be more amusing there. That aside, I felt the solution to the plushie dog was a bit “meh”. Its fine, so I won’t harp on it, but it did feel like, “Well, I need to get this over with.”
Finally, we have Haku encounter Wendy and Lily. Heck, this brat should solo the entire thing, turning everyone into plushies.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 96 is reasonably entertaining.
